UK’s Swanson to serve on NIEHS review committee, contribute to US biomedical research

A University of Kentucky researcher will be serving as a member of the National Institute of Environmental Health Science (NIEHS) Environmental Health Sciences (EHS) Review Committee. The committee is responsible for the scientific review of multiple grant mechanisms at the NIEHS.

UKSRC trainees named poster award-winners at the 2024 Wyatt Symposium

The 2024 John P. Wyatt, M.D., Environment and Health Symposium was held Thursday, April 4 on the University of Kentucky campus at the J. David Rosenberg College of Law Grand Courtroom. The Wyatt symposium honors the legacy of Dr. John P. Wyatt and his pioneering environmental clinical research on air pollution and lung pathology. Multiple universities and agencies from across the state gathered to present research and practice focused on the environment and its impact on health in Kentucky.

Cleanup of East Palestine, Ohio, train derailment site could take years to complete

Public attention is drifting from the aftermath of the Norfolk Southern train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, last month, but the cleanup of the toxic chemicals that spilled and burned is ongoing — and likely won’t stop for quite some time. “I estimate the timeline to be years” for remediation of the area, said Kelly Pennell, a professor of civil engineering and director of the University of Kentucky’s Superfund Research Center.
