Core B: Biomonitoring and Environmental Analytical Chemistry Core (BEACC)

Core Leader: Angela Gutiérrez, PhD

Co-Core Leader: Kelly Pennell, PhD

The Biomonitoring and Environmental Analytical Chemistry Core (BEACC) laboratory contains sophisticated instruments that can detect, identify and measure environmental chemicals in soil, water and samples from humans and animals including blood, urine and hair. The laboratory makes measurements of these chemicals to support center researchers studying how they are distributed in the environment, how they affect the health of exposed individuals and more detailed studies of the underlying mechanisms involved using laboratory mouse models. The laboratory can also conduct measurements of many different natural chemicals in the body. These measurements are made to support center researchers who are studying how healthy diet and nutrition can counteract the disease promoting effects of environmental chemicals.
